Monkeytorium

For a long time this site was devoid of monkeys and other primates. The monkeytorium has rectified this. There are only a few at the moment in the random monkey generator below (click to randomise) but I hope to see many more soon. All primates are welcome.

King Monkey

Of course no Monkeytorium would be complete without paying homage to King Monkey. That magical creature born of rock and, as a life lesson, forced to aid the boy? priest Tripitaka on a quest to find enlightenment.

Monkey is the story by Wu Ch'êng-ên based on the ancient Chinese legend 'Journey To The West', which traces the origins of Buddhism. It follows the adventures of Tripitaka and his disciples Pigsy, Sandy and of course Monkey, on their journey from China to India on a holy pilgrimage fraught with many dangers.

Aside from the televised version there is also an online, abridged cartoon version of the story available here.

Coming Soon: Republican Monkey

In the mean time Joel has suggested a completely different republican monkey

The Smallest Monkey in the World

The pigmy marmoset is the smallest monkey known to man. The Latin name is Cebuella pygmaea and can fit in the palm of your hand. It measures 4-5 inches long (excluding the tail) and weighs less than 4 ounces. They live in small groups, feeding on tree sap, insects, and sometimes small fruits. Local people love to keep them as pets, but they do not survive long in captivity (so don't do it). The ruff of fur around the head has led to their Spanish name, 'Leoncito' (little lion). Other Sites can be found here, here, here and here.

There was one in the news recently as the smallest ever found but I am having trouble finding references but I would like to track progress of this tiniest of all simians.
